The night of oud

From the agarwood tree to the bakhoor ember

Oud is the heart of the Gulf home: oil on the wrist before leaving, and bakhoor smoke welcoming guests at the door. We pick the wood ourselves, age the oil, and knead the bakhoor with our own hands.

  1. Pieces of natural agarwood with their dark veins

    The wood

    Dark veins that resin draws through the heart of the agarwood tree over many years. We buy it in pieces and sort it by scent and colour, so only wood worthy of the ember reaches our shelves.

  2. An ornate golden attar bottle

    The oil

    The wood is distilled slowly until it gives a few drops of thick oil, which is then aged for months. One drop on the wrist lasts a whole day and grows warmer by the hour.

  3. Fragrant wood sticks burning in a bowl

    The ember

    We knead oud shavings with rose, musk and amber and leave them to mature into bakhoor. A small piece on the ember scents the majlis, your clothes and your hair.
